50 Billion Litres Per Year
That is the projected volume of additional water security the people of Western Australia will enjoy thanks to the new Alkimos Desalination Plant. Located in Noongar Country, this major facility will form a key component of the broader Alkimos Water Precinct. Built by Acciona in partnership with the WA State Government, the state-of-the-art project also includes a 33.5-kilometer underground pipeline extending to Wanneroo.
Overcoming Lifting & Operational Challenges
Before partnering with Safetech, the client faced significant limitations with their existing lifting equipment providers. Including reduced efficiency, reliability concerns, and insufficient capacity to meet the heavy demands of the project. They required a robust, highly reliable crane solution to boost productivity, ensure top-tier safety, and elevate overall operational performance.
Engineered Heavy-Lifting Solutions
To meet these rigorous requirements, three massive MHE-branded gantry cranes engineered by Safetech now stand tall over the construction phase:
- 2x 10-tonne Gantry Cranes (40 m span)
- 1x 20-tonne Gantry Crane (48.5 m span)
Working in tandem, these gantry cranes handle the critical task of manoeuvring heavy pipe sections directly into the tunnelling network.
Supporting ongoing operations inside the workshop and maintenance facilities, Safetech also installed nine single-girder cranes across the buildings, complemented by a 5-tonne pillar-mounted jib crane.
