The Sydney Fish Market’s Grand Opening!
The publics first look at our critical connection between dock and market.
After 60 years of operation, the original Sydney Fish market in Blackwattle Bay in Pyrmont NSW has retired, replaced by a brand-new facility right next door.
NSW Premier Chris Minns alongside various ministers, wielded the ceremonial scissors and cut the ribbon on January 19th 2026 to open the building to the public for the first time. 4 years in the making, Safetech worked alongside the contracted builders Multiplex, and design firms BVN and ASPECT Studios.
From the opening hour the facility was a buzz with activity. Vendors were wrapping fresh seafood, restaurants were serving up their breakfast specials, and there was no shortage of Hors d'oeuvres and speciality samples to go around.
But silently keeping the facility stocked and goods moving freely, were the wide range of Safetech products, that are a critical link between the loading dock and market. And on this grand opening day, they kicked into action almost immediately, as vendors frantically begun restocking the shelves.
Almost every one of the 6 million anticipated annual visitors, will receive goods that have passed across our Safetech Loading docks, then transported via one of our 12 custom made Freight Hoists to the various stalls and auction floors.
While the striking roof wowed visitors as they look up from all angles. The Architects themselves couldn’t help but praise the Inflatable EcoDock Shelters that help to maintain the cold climate within the logistics areas. This was critical to maintain the claim that this building will be the best smelling fish market in the world.
Exposed to the harsh coasting conditions and wet nature of the transported goods, Stainless steel finishes lined all our Freight Hoists, including hoist number 1, built to lift 5t so that a forklift can transported when required. Integrated central pits capture and distribute the liquids that will inevitably collect inside, keeping the environment clean and safe for all passengers.
It’s been a long but rewarding project for the entire Safetech team. The breadth and quantity of the products kept our local manufacturing facilities occupied. Our professional installation teams coordinated and delivered the goods, adapting and working within a dynamic construction schedule.
Throughout this milestone day for Sydney harbour, the lines to get inside continued to grow. The impact this project and the range of Safetech products that keep goods moving has on the NSW economy cannot be understated. The old market site, planned to have an estimated 1500 new residential homes, will join this mixed-use area to become a key destination for locals and visitors for years to come.
